Starting a Business as a Young Entrepeneur

When it comes to running a business, there are so many different aspects to concern yourself with that it can be initially overwhelming. Where do you even start? It’s very common for young entrepreneurs with little experience to go out and incur a great deal of debt right from the start. I would strongly recommend against this when first starting a screen printing and custom embroidery company. It’s challenging enough without putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on yourself. I would highly recommend that you start out with a feasibility study. Go out and get yourself some business cards and then start cold calling various types of businesses. The very first thing that you need to do is to try and actually talk to the decision maker and not the secretary. Even if you say all the right things and give a tremendous presentation and she is sold on you as well as your product, she in no way has the authority to make that decision, let alone write a check for a deposit. You’re better off cutting right to the chase and asking for the owner. When it comes down to it he is the one that you’re going to have to impress and anything said to anyone else is really a waste of your time.

I would describe it as a numbers game. I remember back when I first started out I would knock on approximately 100 different doors which was exhausting. The overall majority of them used T-shirts, but only approximately 3 to 4% actually needed them right at that moment in time. The rest of them would say to leave them a business card and they would give me a call when they’re ready. That was pretty much just a polite way of saying, just go away. In the event that they did actually keep the card and not throw it away, it typically would end up in a stack of 100 or more thick. Unless it happened to be on the very top they would forget that it was even in there. It did however give us a chance to learn, as well as refine our sales pitch. It just comes with practice. The more you keep on saying it the smoother your delivery becomes where after you have said the same thing 1000 different times. you actually find yourself zoning out and just going on autopilot. We’ve all heard of the term muscle memory which is developed by performing the same exact motion over and over again until you don’t have to think about it all as it becomes automatic. Well the same principles apply to a sales presentation. More than not, I would say something like this: Sooner or later you’re going to need some more T-shirts and when that happens would you mind if I could simply have a chance to give you a quote on them?

We have the ability to cater to not only conventional screen printing and custom embroidery, but also digital applications. We will make it well worth your while to at least give us a chance and after that we will do our best to impress you and make you glad that you did.
