Starting my own custom screen printing company

Have you ever thought of starting your own custom screen printing business? Here is my story of how I got started in this business. Your story will be different, but there will always be the first job, the first screen printed t-shirt, or embroidered baseball cap.

All of my life I have been a self-starter, an entrepreneur. I am focused and self-disciplined, which are two characteristics that are much needed when owning your own business. Close to twenty years ago now, I started my screen printing company. Before that, I owned an asphalt business. It was a lucrative business for me and my family, but it was back breaking and seasonal. Once the cold weather settled into the St. Louis area, my asphalt business came to a screeching halt. For 8 months of the year, I was extremely busy and then, the winter came.

I needed a career that wasn’t seasonal to provide for my family. One day while sitting in the shopping mall in St. Louis, I noticed something that I really didn’t pay attention to before then. I noticed that the majority of the people, young and old alike were wearing some kind of custom screen printed tee shirt or embroidered cap or polo shirt. I thought to myself, “This could be a marketable business in selling custom screen printed T shirts.” I didn’t have any idea how to actually do it, but I knew there was a market for it. So there started my journey. To make a long story short, after a lot of trial and error, I learned what it took to produce a quality product. I had some mentors also that helped me along the way.

Twenty years later, I have a solid, lucrative custom screen printing and embroidery company.
