Ten Ways To Show Your Employees Some Love and Appreciation

It is a known fact that a happy, appreciated, and respected employee will perform at their peak performance. For an employee to be in this state, the employer or manager has a lot to do with that. Of course, there are people that are natural born complainers and pessimistic and put everyone around them down and in a bad mood. However, the employer or manager can usually set the tone of the office by being optimistic and respectful of their employees.

Here are 10 ways to show, not just talk about it, your employees love and appreciation. Believe me, it will pay off in productivity and an overall good working environment.

  1. Scout’s honor – Give your employees some company gear. This could include custom screen printed or custom embroidered t-shirts or polos with your company logo on it. Over time, you could give them badges for various achievements or milestones that they could put on their shirt. I remember seeing employees at my local grocery store that would have badges on their shirts that would say something like, “20 year anniversary”.
  1. Celebrate birthdays – It doesn’t take much, but just a small token of recognition on one’s birthday with a cake means a lot. It says that you care about them personally.
  1. Treats and eats – Every once in a while spring for some treats, such as popcorn, and you’ll see the room light up.
  1. Wall of fame – Show off your employees’ successes and achievements. They will appreciate it.
  1. Trade offices – Trade desks with a designated employee for the day. It’s a fun role-play and just might motivate them to work harder to earn that office for themselves permanently.
  1. Field trip – Send your employees on an occasional trip to a vendor or customer. It is a good change of pace and will break up the monotony of things. It may help motivate them also to keep up the good work.
  1. Magazine subscription – Let your employees order a 12 month magazine subscription of their choice. Just another way of saying to your employees, “I care.”.
  1. Assembly – Get your people together in one room and recognize one person for their outstanding performance and accomplishments.
  1. Cater their lunch – Who doesn’t enjoy a free lunch?? I know that I certainly do. Maybe make it a practice to give your employees a free lunch once a month. They’ll appreciate it, for sure.
  1. Team jerseys – Recognize your starting lineup with personalized team jerseys. For example, you could put the department name on a company jersey.

If you do any or all of these suggestions, you are sure to change the atmosphere in the office and get your employees motivated to perform at their peak.
